Product Publicity — News Releases

Creative concepts and business-to-business copywriting by William C. Blake

My advice to every industrial, business-to-business company:
your first dollar spent should be on product publicity.

You'll get your biggest bang for your buck by implementing a continuous program of news releases. Augment it with on-going efforts to place feature articles in the leading trade publications.

My clients' news releases have been published in over 400 different industrial trade magazines. Here are just three of the "pick ups" that made front covers.

Client: Thermagon
Challenge: the client was a fast-growing start-up that lacked name recognition until it got this front cover, from ELECTRONICS COOLING, the industry's key publication

Client: Hornell Speedglas
Challenge: lots of OEM and maintenance magazines cover welding; our basic list (prior to customization) for this client included over 200 magazine editors
Client: Hornell Speedglas
Challenge: most clients don't have new products every month; creative management of product publicity means regular use of newsworthy topics: new applications, new options, new training opportunities, mini case histories, etc.
